Hi Sammac (or anyone else for that matter!) You asked me to let you know about our trip - well we went last week - WOW! Had the best time of my life! Did all the main sights, highlights were Empire State Building, got there at 8.30am sat morning and there were no queues at all, went straight up to the top in 2 minutes. Get the audio tour, its well worth the few extra dollars, very informative and easy to listen to. We also used the tickets booth in Times Square for cheapo theatre tickets, went at 11am and queued for an hour for matinee tickets which we got at half price, went to see The Light in the Piazza which was a nice little romantic show in a lovely theatre. If you want evening tickets I think the booth opens at 3pm for them. Go to Central Park, we did a carriage ride, $40 for half an hour, really lovely and romantic, you go round the edge of the park then into it, we went past the ice rink, the carousel, the zoo etc, and the driver was brilliant, very informative, pointing out various buildings and things in the park. Bloomingdales is nicer than Macys but they are both worth doing for a wander. Tiffanys is good for a 10 minute gasp at the jewels! Grand Central Station is awesome, we loved it as so many films were shot there and we are film buffs. For the same reason loved the Public Library, which is just beautiful inside and well worth a wander round (free). We felt very safe all the time, even at night on side streets, also on the subway (went on it during the day), but we got cabs most of the time as we wanted to look around all the time. The pedicabs (rickshaws) are brilliant, very exciting and scary, well worth a little trip in one! Canal Street great for a wander, loads of little shops and stands selling fake designer stuff, lots of wrinkled little women sidling up to you muttering "rolex!" and "prada!" we were in stitches! Greenwich Village and Soho great for a stroll round, some very funky shops. We found without exception the people to be very friendly, and everywhere we ate was fab. Loads of delis for breakfast, and try a smoothie! Fantastic, they were my favourite thing. And the cheesecake! Oh my. Dh had an oreo cookie milkshake which was orgasmic, everything is just delish. If you want a really cheesy but highly entertaining restaurant, try Ellen's Stardust Diner, I think it was w56th street, but they have a website. 50s diner with singing waitresses, we loved it! Very touristy but great fun, and not too pricey at all.
Hope you have a great trip! I would go back tomorrow if I could....
