Looking at relocating to Taunton in the next few years and although DH knows area well, I don't. We are planning a "reccie" trip this summer and would like a nice, family friendly hotel in the area. Or at the coast somewhere. I am a 5-star kind of girl though!

I would also be keen on a nice cottage within walking distance to a village with a nice pub.

There's a Luxury Family Hotel one near Weymouth, which wouldn't be too bad for Taunton, either, although it's had mixed reviews. The Castle Hotel in Taunton is the famous cheffy one, isn't it? No idea how family friendly it is, though.

There's Wooley Grange outside Bath, also run by the Luxury Family Hotel Group. I think the one outside Weymouth is called Moonfleet Manor. I don't work for them honest, I just dream about them . . .

Woolley Grange is in Bradford on Avon, so it's the one that was mentioned further down :) You're right though, it is close to Bath, and it is fab!

BudaBabe, i live in taunton so have never stayed in any hotels nearby but a friend has stayed at fishponds house in Dunkeswell, she said it was lovely, also has self catering cottages.
