Same UK standards for car seats across EU?

We are travelling to Lanzarote in 2 weeks and hired a car along with a car seat for DS1.
Has anyone had any exeperience with rental car seats abroad?
Are they a good standard?

We hired cars with car seats when DD was 6 months and 2.3 years. The car seat we got was the same for both - essentially a basic 0+/1 group reversible rearward/forward facing seat. These are perfectly safe and secure as long as fitted correctly, and conform to all EU standards.

The first rental was on the Spanish mainland and the second in Menorca.

On both occasions the hire company did NOT fit the car seat - it was simply handed to my husband who rented the car (I don't drive). He says they were fine but a bit dirty, and that you have to follow the instructions given carefully to make sure you get the correct seatbelt tension. PM me if you want some more advice!

bare in mind you are unlikely to be able to be certain that the seats havent been in an accident.... and if they have, regardless of what they look like, they may not be safe

Thanks for the replies!

You can go on forever packing to go abroad! We've gone through quite a big hire company so I'm hoping they have 'standards' so to speak!
