We have to go to the passport office so we might as well make a day of it. Travelling from Somerset, want to spend as little as possible.

Well if you don't want to spend a lot of money then you can head towards Belle Vue park, next to the Royal Gwent hospital. Parking is free, there is a nice cafe there for drinks and lunch, bandstand and park is lovely and a nice play area.

Apart from that there is Tredegar Park you can park but have to pay parking.

There is a lovely museum in the centre of Newport that is often overlooked. It is free of charge and in the Library building in John Frost Square. There is Roman stuff, a wildlife bit, a mocked up old fashioned pub and shop, loads of history and huge model ships etc. It's really worth a look.

Otherwise as above, try the Roman Amphithetare and Museum in Caerleon, it's also free, as are all publicly owned museums in Wales.

Tredegar house or park are brilliant!

Tredegar Park has a lovely water play area with little fountains etc that kids can splash in. It's also free.
