We're think about hiring a home for next summer and doing a Dover-Calais crossing then driving down towards La Rochelle and Bordeaux, stopping off for a few nights on the way. Then have a weekish at a site in that region and then come back a different way to Calais, again taking a few days and stopping for a few nights.

Ds will be 7 next summer.

Do you think he will be incredibly bored with all the travelling.

Is it a nice way to spend a holiday?

be very careful, and read the small print , there are a lot of horror stories out there, quite a few of the companies have a very odd accident arraignments,

some have a sneaky pay the £5,000 of any damage, read the reviews of the company very carefully.

they keep coming up on consumer problem programs.

We have done this every year - just back from iur 9th Blush - definitley recommend it - tho' would suggest taking the overnight ferry from Portsmouht to St malo to save driving time as as an 'adventure' Grin to start te holiday..

we have always used eurocamp, they have been fine, never had any problems

Do you use a local company to you MrsGuyofGisbourne or a national one?

I don't really like ferries so the shortest possible crossing is better for me.

Eurocamp is large compnay ( Keycamp also owned by same company)

We always get a cabin - would not contemplate it otherwise...

Choufleur · 12/07/2012 19:48

I meant to hire the homes?

I REALLY hate ferries. Last time we went overnight and had a cabin I was sick and had the shits.

Would rather take a leisurely drive that a long ferry

You need a dvd player for the car, and lots of snacks. We do this every year, mobile home or gite. Tis fine. I always plan for no more than 5 hours driving time in one day. With stops/traffic that is always plenty.

Portofino · 15/07/2012 23:38

Bordeaux/Dordogne easily doable from Calais with an overnight stop.

Do you mean a motor home rather than a mobile home?
