Maldives for a week only - too much for DDs?

Hi, I'm thinking of going to the Maldives when summer hols start with DH and DDs age 8 and 6. DH very keen. But I'm concerned the jet lag might make DCs grumpy and therefore spoil the 'holiday of a lifetime'.

We've been to Turkey a few times and they found the airport travel tiring. It's not jus the 10 hr flight to Male and transfers but the 2 hrs waiting at the airport and the hour getting there. DH must think I'm being an ungrateful DW for not being more excited... I just wonder if we'd have a better (easier) time doing B&B at a hotel in Greece or Turkey again. Maldives so £££, we might be better waiting till they're 8 and 10 and going for a fortnight or at least 10 days. Not an option this yr.

Anyone who's been, would you say a week is long enough to enjoy it? We are thinking of the Hilton Iri Fushi or Meeru and I've read good stuff about Bandos on MN just now.

My brother works on Meeru as a diving instructor. It's a lovely resort and if your kids love the beach they'll be in heaven. They are also old enough to do a bit of scuba diving with the instructors. Agree though, the flights are killers. We went to Thailand last year with dds 10 & 6. Took a day or so to adjust but we were there 16 days. I don't now whether I'd have done it for only a week's stay. Tbh, if it was me, lovely tho the Maldives are, I'd leave it a couple of years until they're older and you can go for longer.

Also, we've just had a week in June on Corfu and it was perfect in terms of length of flight, transfers and pool/beach time.

Leave them with GPs and go by yourselves Grin

I know it isn't at long but I took my DC to the Caribbean when they were 5 and 7 for just one week and they were absolutely fine. The excitement seemed to cancel out any tiredness. I just didn't say anything negative at all about the trip as they really pick up on this. I'd go for it.

If I could afford it I'd do it. I love Bandos having been three times. If you time the flights well its not too bad. We used to fly Emirates and fly evening arriving early hours into Dubai and then a flight at about 3am into Male. Bandos is only 20 mins by boat from Male but the rooms are always ready on arrival. Just check the schedule as sometimes Emirates fly to Columbo (Sri Lanka) on the way to Male and you have an hour on the ground there.

Not sure the youngest would be able to dive though, thought minimum age for bubblemaker was 8 unless its changed recently. Can highly recommend the dive school at Bandos though if you do go and there is a free kids club during the day.
