Marco Island or Sanibel Florida

Hi,

We are debating where to spend Christmas. My parents are in Toronto and will come down to meet us in Florida. They are keen on Sanibel (we went there when I was a kid), I'm thinking Marco Island.

Anyone been to either recently and have advice?

Key criteria- stuff to do with an 18 mos old and golf courses. I'd also like to pop over to Wellington for a day and watch the horse shows :)

I would say, go to Naples instead for the best of both.

Sanibel's gorgeous but very quiet and a bit limited for entertainment. Marco is nice, but for beaches it is not a patch on Naples.

Naples is within an easy drive of both plus it has fabulous restaurants, shopping, loads of stuff to do.

We go to Naples every year. We often rent a little boat and go to Marco island for lunch and usually spend a day on Sanibel/Captiva too.

My parents, up until very recently, used to own a lovely house in Naples so I have frequently visited both Sanibel and Marco Island.

It would be my opinion to head to Marco Island.

Sanibel is beautiful but I cant recall that much to do...

Marco Island is close to Naples and there is so much to do there - the nature reserve, golf, tons of activities for kids.

Oh, I loved kayaking at Marco Island - Im very jealous!

Have fun and either destination is awesome.

Ps. Regina's ice cream parlour on Naples' 5th Ave. OMG. Heaven.

Emmie - this afternoon I was just looking at a photo album my dh made for me of our many holidays in Naples and there were pictures of us in Regina's!

We love going to dinner somewhere on 5th and then walking around with our ice creams from there.

I'll look up Naples then! Any recs for areas/companies to look at? Naples has much more to choose from... Including some places within the golf clubs. Good or bad idea?

We rent privately, usually with VRBO, but there are loads of others.

Lely resort has loads of rentals available, it's very near Marco and it is a golfing mecca!
