Went to Beddgelert which is 7 miles from Porthmadog, with 1 yo.

There is:

Portmerion (where the Prisoner was filmed)
Many many light railways. Kids LOVE them
Castles
Walking-easy for kids
Lots of beaches.
Cream teas-we made it a rule to have at least one a day.

We had a fantastic time.

In centre of Porthmadog there is a crazy golf and park for kids...and shops for you

i live in criccieth.at this time of year there isnt that much going on here.around easter time things start to liven up abit as the campsites open.me and my friend were talking the other day,and to be quite honest, theres not much to do here if you've got small kids.its ok if you have older ones as there is ten pin bowling now in four crosses, paint balling just near llanystumdwy, swimming in porthmadog and pwllheli.but unless youve got kids that enjoy walking around looking at old places, theres nothing for younger kids.weve lived here 10 years now,and my kids always want to go further away for things to do.theres a great country park near bangor, its called greenwood.its a bit pricey to get in but there are some really great activities for the kids.theres also a park near caernarfon called gypsy something.havent been but its supposed to be good

It's very nice there, but will be nicer in warmer weather and tourist season than it would be now. Like previous posters have said, there are various steam trains etc there, and beaches in Porthmadog itself and nearby, and Portmeirion.

Steph (and Biglips) Gypsy Wood (Coed y Sipsiwn) is about 10 mins. from my house.
Sweet little place for small kids-animals to feed, woodland walks, model train, ponds and kids' play area.
I take my children a lot in the summer.

Biglips,all great suggestions.
Have a great time.
BTW,if you go to Portmeirion, don't eat in the cafes. Go to Castell Deudraeth (part of complex) esp. if it is nice.
They have a lovely walled garden and you can sit outside with a drink and a sandwich (or grander) while the children frolic in complete safety.
Shudder at the thought of queueing with a tray in the self service place.
