Also one of the hotels in Arenal has just had a super duper little water park built in it's grounds, will find out this week if the public are allowed to use it!!Diabolo, RE. El tunel de Ferreries..tis most exciting, you have to put your lights on, even though it isn't really dark..!!! If you are down the Ciutadella end for a day, let me know and we can meet for a cafe con leche!!!

Teensy · 03/06/2012 22:24

That sounds great lop37. Will look into that...

Stayed twice in Calan Bosch & it is by far the best resort on the island.
Very child friendly with a fabulous marina & enough shops bars etc to keep you going.
Plenty for small kids with a little kids amusement park there.
Cheers

Cala n bosch is gorgeous, we loved it, close to Cuitidella which s a beautiful town and has a great hospital should you need it (we did Sad).
Felt very safe and relaxed there

Checking out accommodation on Bosch, but doesn't seem to be any availability in June on any apartments in owners direct. Anyone got any tips on accommodation or other websites to look at.......

What weeks in June do you want? The fiestas of Sant Juan are on last week in June and it will be virtually impossible to find anything as all the Spanish are booking up!

lop37 · 04/06/2012 11:18

There should be more availability in the north of the island, though.

lop37 · 04/06/2012 11:20

If you want to come before the 22nd i know of somewhere in Bosch.

Teensy · 04/06/2012 12:28

Hi lop, we have found decent price flights on 15th June and returning on the 25th June so 10 nights. If know of somewhere for 2 adults and 2 kids under 4 that would be great. Thanks so much for your help. Tina

We went to Calan Bosch two years ago. We stayed at the Paradise Club which we thought was brilliant for small children. They are part of a Spanish chain called Mar Hotels and had a brilliant animation team who were marvellous with the children.

diabolo · 06/06/2012 18:57

Lop37. Thanks for that. Staying down the other end of the Island has really opened our eyes to the wonders of Mao. We always preferred Ciutadella and love the place (DH has these dreams of buying a grand old house there on the Passeig de Sant Nicolau), but staying in Sant Climent has meant we've taken to wandering around Mao of an evening if we're not in C'an Bernat or eating at the villa.

We'll probably only get to Ciutadella once or twice.

Can I ask you something though?. From where we are staying is it really worth going to Son Saura for a day? It's one of the few virgin beaches we have never visited. We always take a picnic whichever beach we visit, so food and drink aren't a problem, but is it as gorgeous as it looks? Or will it be full of a thousand other people at the end of July? I don't like busy beaches much.

Thanks.

Hi, just been reading this very interesting and informative thread on Menorca.
I got some really cheap flights (less than £500 for family of 4) so now I'm looking for some accom, we looked at the wooden houses/camping thing in the forest but unfortunately it's all booked...
We also nearly booked a villa with pool in Calan Porter but luckily I read this thread first... union Jack flags, Brits abroad type thing not good.
After reading this I'm looking at some of the other places.
Can anyone reccomend specific places, self catering?
:)

FrameyMcFrame · 20/07/2012 15:16

Found a really nice villa here
In Cala Galdana, thanks for the thread :)

lop37 · 20/07/2012 15:43

Cala Galadana is lovely, the beach is absolutely beautiful! Enjoy!

as from the above comments you will start to gather than the large west coast resorts are more package hotels crowds with the plus and minuses that can have depending on your view elsewhere it's very individual and idylic.

Holiday Villas across the island and to get a idea in pictures which help you decide rather than someones descriptions try

Cal en Porter is not as decribed above - there are some ex pat residents who occaionally celebrate some UK events - the brit abrod place are cala en Bosch and Forcat resorts

botandhothered · 24/10/2012 12:02

Papi, as already said, Calan forcat is quite brits abroad, though becoming less so. I don't think the same can be said of Calan Bosch, though.
Only 1 bar in the resort is owned by Brits. During July and August you will see more Spanish around the Marina than British. Fantastic seafood restaurants etc attract them.
Recently I was at the Fiestas in Calan Porter and the amount of expat kids there surprised me, nowhere else on the Island has such a large expat community. Definately quite a few british owned bars, and businesses.
Admittedly, Menorca largely unspoilt by mass tourism does not have any real resorts that could be described as brit abroad, and anyone looking for fish and chips will be disappointed.

Papi · 18/01/2013 07:15

Sorry by brits abroad I meant the holidaymakers not the ex pats. I know CP very well and there is a community of ex pats there and a section that leave something to be desired but that does not affect CP which has many more non brit owned restaurants and Bars. At fiesta time in CP many ex pats that live on Menorca gather there so you will have a 'distorted view'. As you say there is nothing like those unfortunate places on mallorca , mainland spain for which I feel sorry for the locals.--just for sake of accuracy :-)

Viviennemary · 21/01/2013 13:01

I also recommend Santo Tomas. We've been twice. There didn't seem to be lots of young children but there were a few. And it's a very nice little place but quiet and only a few shops and cafes restaurants and so on.

Winternight · 21/01/2013 13:09

Viviennemary. We are looking at S Tomas. What accommodation would you recommend for family with two under 5?

Viviennemary · 21/01/2013 13:55

We stayed at the Vistamar. But I think if I remember rightly they were all studios. Only DH and me went that time. Second time we had booked there but they moved us to Hamiltons which I moaned about but when we got there they'd given us a bigger place. So they were quite nice too. I don't think there is any bad accommodation there. Another place we went to sometimes for a drink was the Victoria Playa and that had a lot of babies and young children staying and they put on special entertainment for tinies. But I think that is probably a bit more expensive. That was much bigger.

diabolo · 21/01/2013 17:24

I know some people who love these apartments in Santo Tomas:
