Ello harrogatemum I used to live in Starbeck... ok I just felt like saying that, how totally useless of me

maybe you can recommend a nice resort in STarbeck instead - would save on the airfares!!

OH god me me me
DH's family are from Sabah, been heaps of times
whaddyawanna know?

Well there are all pretty top quality, the one I know best is the Tanjung Aru, just outside of KK ( that's Kota Kinabalu - do try and keep up)

Your sis is most likely getting a very sweet all inclusive deal, is she travelling from WA?

The journey is fine, I've done it with 1 little one. Go Malaysian and ask if they have any stopover deals, which of course they will, they always do. The connecting flight form KL to KK is about three and a half hours.

The thing to do in Sabah is visit Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary but it's rainforest trekking so I would NOT do it with tots, just not worth it as they will get very very hot and probably not get a great deal out of it. If I were you I would make it a luxury hotel based hol, laze around the pool eating well and catch up with your sis.

Feel free to ask anything more

Eugh no, it's the arse-end of North Yorkshire!

The natives might entertain you of an evening with activites such as bonfire lighting, peeing in the street and brick thrwoing competitions though...

We went last summer.

The Sepilok Orang Utan Orphanage is fantastic...you must go. We also went to Turtle Island which was brilliant but I'm not sure would be very easy with babies.

The journey is fine - agree that Malaysia is good. We toured through Malaysia first & took internal flights with Air Asia - their version of Easy Jet. We stayed just outside KK at Langkah Syabas - run by Australian guy - nice enough but the beach isn't very pleasant & you can't swim there. KK was alright - Filopino market was good. Easy to travel around by bus. (Mind you we didn't have a baby then so....!)
The food in Malaysia is so good! We found the 'Rough Guide' very useful.

There were quite a few Australians there & Borneo is marketed at them alot. I think its their Tenerife!

We flew via Sri Lanka which was beautiful.

Bali is our Tenerife

not that I've been to either or am actually Australian

suzywong · 19/02/2006 13:34

check out this link to Malaysian airlines

I don't know what your budget is of course, but the stopover deals are always great and of course you get the transfers sorted out for you and personally I wouldn't be hanging around for a Proton taxi with little kids. Not that I 'm a snob or nothing. Honest

thanks all - Sis in law will be coming from Brisbane with her 4 yr old and 2 yr old - but obviously its less of a trip for them as it is for us!! I would prefer to go somewhere that is one flight away rather than two......but the Tanjung Aru that she wants to stay at does look nice..........better start saving now!

oh yes stay at the Tanjun Aru. It's beautiful.
With the connecting flight to KK it will make your overall journey including transfters about 17 or even 18 hours but it's sooooooo relaxing there.

Of course if you wanted just the one flight then you would be looking at Singapore or Bangkok.
