Reports, please! Is there enough to keep a couple of preschoolers happy for 7-10 days? Any accommodation recommendations? thanks.

It is always worth ringing the tourist office first (01720 422 536). I rang a month ago and got a week self-catering for this summer on Bryher in our favourite cottage as the owner had had a cancellation. There is possibly some availability on St Mary's too, which is probably the best island to stay on the first time you go.

Would Scillies be possibility for non-driving family?

bettys · 14/02/2006 17:52

Absolutely - you can't take a car there! Train to Penzance then helicopter/plane/boat to the islands. Details here

dino, I can't think of anywhere better for a non-driving family, truly. If you want to be away from cars completely then go for one of the off-islands, not St. Mary's, which has got actual roads, how dare it.

Sounds really good. Was talking to DH about it earlier. I think we would probably do it the following summer when DS3 is 3 rather than 2, iyswim.

Well I have had a very helpful and prompt response from tregarthens, no reply yet from Hell Bay or St Martins - I wonder if they don't think they need to try so hard?

That's a shame, I've always had a very good response from Hell Bay. They used to close during the winter and not open again until April, maybe it's changed a bit.
There appears to be a vacancy in August here for self-catering or have a look on this site

Sorry, just realised that's bed and breakfast, but because people tend to book a year ahead there are cancellations

I went to hell bay last year w a 4-month old - Bryer is wonderful, the hotel is great - and I found them helpful. Sounds like a blip that you haven't heard back from them - persevere, it is so worth it!
