Affordable holiday in Europe.

I need a recommendation for an affordable holiday for my family (myself, DH and 2 year old). We don't drive so we want to be right next to a beach and walking distance of some shops. But not near any crazy night life - want it to be nice and relaxing. We are going in May.
Everything just seems to be so expensive.
many thanks!!!!

Pierre et Vacances, Siblu, Canvas, Eurocamp ? Some nice resorts near the beach in the north of France, most have a shop on site for essentials and have transport or are near to a town or supermarket and restaurants.

IME, France and Spain are expensive places to holiday in terms of eating out etc. Greece is far more affordable. If you want a blue flag beach with crystal clear water, handful of restaurants then you can't go wrong with Aghia Paraskevi in Skiathos. There is a fab bus service too which takes you to the main town in 15 minutes. 20 minute transfer from the airport but no problems with aircraft noise due to relatively low number of flights. We have been twice, booking directly with Green Park Apartments for a very good deal - lovely apartments set in gardens with a pool.

I would also recommend Naxos but that does require a second plane journey from Athens (or ferry from Piraeus, Mykonos or Santorini) which does bump the price up.

thanks both for the recommendations! these all look hopeful (apart from the camping which DH refuses to consider after a bad childhood experience...)
