I am flying to DC next week with my 11 month old and my 7 year old. Any tips for entertaining the little one?

Which airport and airline?.

Do not rely on the airline to fully provide re foodstuffs; take what they like and enough of it. Any uneaten food can be left behind on the aircraft.

Portable DVD player may be helpful for your eldest; childrens programmes and entertainment for children on board can be quite limited.

I'm watching this with interest as am doing a long haul journey after Easter with my 3yr old and 16 month old. Just found this wonderful bit of advice on snotty passagers moaning about crying/children noise.....

"We were on a flight once where some grumbly old codger said, 'Your children need to quieten down.' This was at 2pm on a flight to the US. I went back to my seat (had been en route to the loo) and fished out the ear plugs which had been thoughtfully provided. Walked back to him, handed him the ear plugs and said, 'I think these are supposed to go in your ears but, in your case, I think your arse would be a more suitable receptacle.'" soapbox

Love it!! I'm storing this one up just in case it's needed.

Omg I think that's great! Stored and remembered!

I am flying BA. I've read a lot of the stories, but have flown with them twice now and find them fantastic with the kids. Not as good as Virgin, but very good nonetheless. Maybe it's the route we fly?

Bring a good selection of toys, maybe something new. Wrap them so the child can have that entertainment too. Have you requested the bulkhead basinet, or is the little one too heavy for it now? Prepare yourself for walking up and down the aisle A LOT if your 11mo is cruising. Your 7 yo might be entertained by taking the younger sibling up and down (and is probably smaller than you so would be less likely to accidentally bump into other passengers while helping the little one cruise)
