We stayed at West House Farm Cottages - 3 cottages on a dairy farm, very child friendly, lovely welcome basket of local goodies, on cottage has a hot tub.

There are loads of stunning places to stay in the Lakes, but I think you'll do well to find one that has a vacancy for that weekend, or who will take a booking for only the weekend - sad experience of trying to book for the full week after our original booking (made last August) collapsed when the owners sold the house Angry

We stayed here - near to Ullswater/Penrith - last year. Really lovely 3 bed self catering eco lodge. Lovely light rooms, stylish decor, all very new and pristine looking. Enclosed little garden with decking out the back - across the field from sheep. You can also stay in an annex off the main part of the owners house, which looks lovely. Very reasonably priced. Also on site is an art gallery, veggy restaurant, gifty shop and puppet theatre.

Will a place peak district be easier to find?

I think you will find that virtually all (decent) self-catering places in the UK will only be available on a weekly let during that week (half term/double bank holiday).
