Portugal - where to stay?

Hi,

Can anyone give me some advice over where to go in Portugal this June? I'm looking for a villa with a pool for two families with toddlers (both will be aged 2 when we go away).

We're not into golf, and don't want to be in an 'england abroad' resort so keen to be away from english pubs and thumping bass from crappy nightclubs.

Also, although we're looking for somewhere with its own pool, we'd quite like to be near the sea - how rough / cold is it on the Algarve considering we're taking toddlers? Will they be freaked out by scary water?! If so we might look at somewhere in the med like Mallorca.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Lisa

The sea is the Atlantic so think big waves and a bit chilly, my boys were older spent every day body boarding. The beaches are spectacular.
So if the sea is important for your toddlers I'd stick with the med.
Menorca is quieter and great for very young families.

Google Fuzeta, it's a little village on the eastern Algarve about 45 mins from the spanish border. It hasn't been overrun by tourists. You can get a beer/wine for less than a euro and the restaurants are all very cheap and Portuguese - remember having a bbq'd whole sea bass for about 6 euro.

It has a very calm natural lagoon beach which is perfect for kids. Or you can take a 3 minutes boat ride across the lagoon to the atlantic beach, which was lovely too but the sea was very rough.

Not sure if there were any villas there, but lots of self catering apartments.
