Decent aparthotel/hotel in Mallorca. Any advice?

I have flights to Mallorca booked for 1st week in June, myself, DH, DDs aged 6 and 4 years old. I'm wondering where to stay. Anyone been on any good AI hols?

We've had a tough 4 years, (some health probs) and we're chancing our first holiday away. I really don't fancy self-catering, as we don't have the energy, so I thought AI might be the way to go.

I've been looking here, here, and here.
I haven't done this before so am at a bit of a loss as to how to choose and I am driving myself crazy looking at tripadvisor!

Any advice? Any experiences? TIA.

for location and if you want pool and beach based holiday you cant beat a good 4star on alcudia bay/playa de muro. the beach is gorgous, gently shelving and perfect for little ones- just make sure you get a hotel with direct beach access. there are 3 or 4 iberostars. alcudia park is the cheapest of them normally. hotel and food and location fab. 1 bed apartment rooms could be more lux but would still recommmend. can get good rates direct on iberostar site or try comparison sites. there are hotels all the way round the bay.

Thanks! I was wondering about the Iberostars, rates aren't bad I thought. I have read playa de muro is nice and quiet-ish. I think there's an Iberostar there. Will check. This is our first attempt at an 'away' holiday, so I really feel the pressure to make it good!

You will find some places call it Alcudia some call it Playa de Muro - it is really just the same place - there is a sign in the street halfway along the bay marking the delineation. It is quiet, in that there is not much going on outside the hotels, but there is a busyish road running along the coast behind the hotels. Also at Alcudia Park, the stage is open air so you could hear the evening entertainment whether you wanted to or not! Didn't seem to keep the kids awake though - they dropped after the mini disco each night!

You will be able to get a bus from outside your hotel to old Alcudia (think narrow streets, little shops, Cathedral ( for a walk) and to Puerto Pollensa which is nice to have a stroll about too to see the sand sculptures. Apart from that there is not much else apart from some touristy shops along the bay road. We found that the beach and pool were so nice and the AI so good that we only left the hotel a couple of times. We had never done such a holiday either and had a fantastic time, it was just so easy - mine were 18mth and 3.5 yrs and it was one of our best holidays. You could see our balcony from the beach so easy to pop back for things, beach bar opened at 10.30am, so ten paces for AI ice creams and drinks, happy kids - bliss!

Don't have any experience of those hotels, but like Alcudia a lot.

Just wanted to say as there have been health problems make sure you have good travel insurance and declare any medical conditions upfront - it may cost a bit more, but you will be covered if one of those conditions causes you to need treatment during your holiday. The provider will advise you what you need to declare. Failing to disclose something like having medical investigations for a condition could invalidate your policy.

Do hope you enjoy your holiday, wherever you go.

I agree, especially if booking flights and hotels seperately, get the absolute best insurance you can afford.

I can recommend Iberostar in Akcudia. We've been to the Cuidad Blanca the past two years and the food is v good as is the children's facilities and entertainment

Thank everyone. Had totally forgotten about travel insurance, can you believe it, but will do so ASAP. We have health ins that covers some away stuff but must check what it covers. I'm fairly determined to give the hols a go, we're all tired and in need of a break.

Am going to pick a hotel around alcudia/playa de muro. Iberostar or hotelsviva. Just have to decide (oh so easy!). Anyone been to any of the viva hotels? Tripadvisor is continuing to torment!
