Weekend with no kids in NY!!

My friend and I are spending 2 days in New York soon (without children or husbands!!!!) and I'd love to hear any recommendations of places to go for lunches, cocktails or (gasp) maybe dancing?!

We are staying in Tribeca but can get cabs anywhere so if you've seen anywhere worth suggesting please do so!

Yes we are temporarily living in Chicago so my fab friend is coming from England to meet me there for the weekend. No idea where to start - total needle in a haystack!

We went to see a band at the Bowery Ballroom, I got drunk and danced. DH nodded his head.
Ate and had cocktails at the Odeon (145 West Broadway)good food and v good cosmopolitans and mojitos.
Pizza at Lombardis.
Thai food at Kelley and Ping on green street in Soho.
Drank lots of beer in lots of different bars in Soho, West Village, and TriBeCa but cannot remember any names.
This was 5 yrs ago, pre DC. We had such a great time, and I would love to go back. Feeling rather of you!

There are SO many good restaurants in NYC, to suit all budgets. You wont have trouble finding somewhere good to eat, but my favourites are:

Nice brasserie-style lunches at Spring St Natural in Soho - good area for shopping, too. Balthazar is not far and also great for lunch.

Afternoon tea in Gramercy at Lady Medhls (loosen your belts!)

You'll find lovely breakfasts and brunches everywhere in NYC, but a couple of faves of mine are The Cupping Room Cafe and the diner on Union Square - see here, which does killer dirty cocktails with your pancakes and bacon and is quite touristy, but great. There is massive Wholefoods across the square if you want something healthier

Very cute, intimate, low-key brasserie-style restaurant with good food is the Cornelia Street Cafe

To be honest, you could just live off great bagels, deli sandwiches/salads or pizza slices, which are available everywhere and VERY New York. Also worth looking for a good steakhouse - there are loads.
