Tenerife in August...too hot?!

Hi,
We're thinking about going to Tenerife in August with our son who will be 1 by then. I'm just a bit worried it will be too hot! I've read that Tenerife is the cooler of the islands - is that right? Can anyone recommend any of the areas in particular?!
Thanks :)

It will be hot but there is often a breeze on Tenerife so that's nice. TBH, anywhere will be hot on August be it mainland Spain, Tenerife majorca or wherever. I am not sure there is really a huge distinction between 34 degrees and 37 degrees it still feels bloody hot Grin

Los Christianos is nice for families, playa de las americas is the party resort although it's still nice for families at the puerto colon end of the town. There is a newer resort to the left ( as you look at a map) of playa that's nice I believe just can't remember the name sorry!

Get somewhere with air con, you'll be fine

Average highs of 26 degrees in AUgust - for me I'd say that's not hot enough!

\link{http://www.wunderground.com/NORMS/DisplayNORMS.asp?AirportCode=GCXO&SafeCityName=GCXO&StateCode=&Units=none\this site is interesting} - the page I've linked to shows record & average temps for August & you can put in specific dates somewhere & have a look at actual temps on each date year by year (iyswim)

The record highs in Aug look to be around 32-38 but the average is mid-twenties so it should be lovely Smile

(\link{http://www.wunderground.com/NORMS/DisplayNORMS.asp?AirportCode=LEGR&SafeCityName=Granada&StateCode=&Units=none&IATA=WUI\this} is the same chart for Granada & it's much hotter, & much more consistently hot too. Central Spain is a cauldron in August!)

I think it's much more pleasant than the Med, but I'm the one who sits under an umbrella and never sunbathes.
We were in Tenerife in August in 2010 and 2011. It was around the low 30s but always with a breeze. On the odd cloudy day it felt much cooler.
We went to the water park on a cloudy day which had the benefit of less sun exposure in queues but it actually felt a bit too cool.
I have also been to Fuertaventura in July and it was so windy I was frozen.

We have just returned from Tenerife and realised you can not trust Internet weather reports. It is luck of the draw

August will be super hot but not like India or Thailand just lovely and warm. Here it will be raining!

Go somewhere with a pool and it will be fine.

Where you staying? We stayed in paradise park and it was lovely. Los christanos gorgeous.

Oh and another go Siam park and go on tower of power!!'

Don't worry it will be fine

Hi there.
I live in Tenerife and have a small childcare business.

Tenerife is very populer in the summer months as yes it is hot but not unbearable as many people have mentioned above that there is always a nice breeze.
i find the temperatures in the months of july and august to be in the hi 20c s in the day and low 20s at night.

If you need hotel advice or have any further questions please dont hesitate to get in touch via my email- [email protected]
