Copenhagen or Austrian Alps for summer break

DH and I are thinking of a short break in the early summer - either in Copenhagen or the Austrian Alps. We're not sure which one would be best.

I've found some lovely hotels in the Austian Alps - quite pricey though and it would be very much a hotel-based trip. I know nothing about Copenhagen other than Tivoli Gardens, the Mermaid, and what I've seen on The Killing! I can't seem to find a hotel to get excited about and I don't know where is the best area to stay.

So, does anyone have any tips on Copenhagen and andy thoughts as to what a few days in the Austrian Alps could be like?

Are you taking children? We went two years running to the Austrian Alps, pre DD. We stayed the first time in Mayrhofen and the 2nd time in Ellmau. I preferred Mayrhofen but they were both lovely holidays. We hired cars, drove around the area, went to Innsbruck, Salzburg, long walks etc. The first year, the weather was glorious the whole time. The 2nd year, it was nice but I think it rained a couple of days. We went both years for a week each.

Another vote for the Austrian Alps. We had a lovely family holiday last summer there. Lots of very family friendly hotels offering loads of activities. Ours had a kids club, pools, spa and excellent food.

It will be just for the 2 of us this year but we're definitely thinking of a family holiday in the Alps when they are a bit older/capable.

We stayed here for a week a couple of years ago and had one of the best holidays evre. DC were 9 and 7 and we did guided hikes 4 out of 7 days with the hotel (free).

It is half board and the food was great - 5 course meal in the evening and different every night.

There is a kids club but we didn't use.

The area is beautiful and we went cycling and exploring further down the valley and also to the massive thermal spa pools.

Couldn't fault it and would go back again tomorrow.

For Copenhagen I would say that you would need no more than 2 days there. I liked Copenhagen but it wasn't that big and there isn't a huge amount to see and do. Also, Tivoli Gardens is looking very tired.

We went to Ötztal last summer, which is where Bingandbear's hotel is. But we were camping instead! But the areas is absolutely lovely and some of the side valleys are totally deserted, only the marmots for company. That hotel does look nice!

You could also try one of the highest hotels in Europe, which is actually just over the border from the Austrian Alps in Italy (but German-speaking). We're planning on being there this summer - great view from the swimming pool.
