First Time to Mark Warner in the summer - Which one should we choose?

It's me, DH and DD who will be 12. I like Tennis, DH may do a bit of sailing but not too fussed, DD likes water sports.

Did Neillson in Sivota last year which DD loved, also did Club Med in Napitia which was fine but not very many english speaking children.

Has anyone done a lot of Mark Warners - which would you recommend?

TIA

Do another Neilson far better than MW

Sorry but I did not rate mw (cos), heard better things about neilson and sunsail. We went to a first choice holiday village last year. This was against my instint, based on memories of package holidays in the 70s as a child, but it was fab. In fact I'm being too nice mw was awful, the only company I've ever written to complain about, and no I was not asking for any compensation, but for them to change their policy regarding an aspect of their childcare. hope you find something good.

ScaryFairy28 · 06/01/2012 00:13

Yourefired can I ask what it was about there childcare?

Over the last 10 years I have done several MW holidays but feel the brand has been somewhat downgraded over the years with more and more things being paid for as extra rather than included. The best MW resort we went to was Lakitira in Kos. Recently I have found that Neilson have really upped their came. Last May I went to Lemnos with Neilson and the holiday, the resort, the childcare etc was first class. I have also been to Halkidiki with Neilson although the resort was a bit run down. I have tried one Sunsail holiday to Turkey (Foca) and the hotel/grounds were fab but the rooms were a let down. I also felt that Sunsail seem to attract a more hardcore sailing crowd so if you are not that bothered about the sailing aspect it might not be for you. Was still a great holiday though.

But if you are looking at Neilson would definitely recommend going to Lemnos.

Scary, at the end of the week they awarded all the children with certificates for best swimmer, best whatever etc, basically filling in a blank on the award with whatever they wanted. But they also decided to take the piss out of some of the children vis their award "category". My daughter was one of them. She had to walk up and collect a certificate for most annoying in front of everyone, and walk back crying. I was unable to stop it as children were at the front, and parents at back of area. She was 6 at the time. Bastards.

Dalek, we went to the red sea resort. The first choice staff were wonderful.

That is dreadful yourefired. I am really gobsmacked the MW staff behaved like that and can assure you I have never experienced that aspect of childcare with any of the MW staff I have encountered. Your poor DD. I can see that it might be more acceptable for the older kids (14-17) if done in a joking sense but no way for a 6yo.

Was it fc or MW that did that it's totally shockingAngry. Definitely try another Neilson they now have that SS resort in Foca and it's lovely. Lemnos has recently been refurbed and sounds lovely I went before it was done up and it was nice then. Can also recommend lesvos lovely resort and beautiful town, there's a nudist beach between town and resort though so take the road into town via turtle bridge!

ScaryFairy28 · 06/01/2012 12:05

Sorry just reread and realised it was MW totally shocking Angry

ScaryFairy28 · 06/01/2012 12:07

Other plus side of Neilson if you go on there forum it's regularly checked by both the brothers who are in charge so no fighting your way to the top if there ever is a problemGrin

TimothyClaypoleLover · 06/01/2012 12:07

Scary that is interesting to know Neilson now have the Sunsail Foca resort - perhaps they will refurb that like their Lemnos resort. The only thing letting it down with Sunsail was the terrible rooms.

Yourefired · 06/01/2012 13:51

I wrote to head office on return and they did investigate. I did get a back-handed apology, and they (the resort staff) said that it was supposed to be, can't remember exact phrase but something along the lines of good-natured fun/bit of a laugh. When we went it was the end of the season and I suppose a bit of a jokey, lad culture had developed amongst the quite young staff. I hope this was a one off, as yes can see that they started doing it for the older kids and it just permeated down the age ranges. In their defence my DD2 was nearly two at the time. She went to the nursery, which was run separately to kids clubs and was very well looked after, and the staff (all qualified and female) were lovely.

ScaryFairy28 · 06/01/2012 16:49

Timothy - they did a huge refurb of the resort before they opened it last summer it's a beautiful resort and when I was there there were lots of ex SSers there, there's lots of pictures on the Neilson forum

boxoftricks · 06/01/2012 16:55

I've been to Lesvos with Neilson and quite a few MW resorts. Neilson by far exceeds MW. Everything seemed to come as an extra with MW for the activities you wanted, whereas Neilson seemed a bit more 'do what you fancy whenever you want' Would definately agree that Sunsail is for the more hard-core sailors though.
