Can anyone offer any advice please?

We love Greece and are looking at a two week stay at the end of May, beginning of June.

I can't help you with Lefkas but Cephalonia is gorgeous.

Have been twice to a place called Skala which is great especially if your taking the kids.
It's not really marketed at families so it's not over run with them IYSWIM.

The beach's are amazingly clean and there is so much to do.
I would love to go back there.

Lesvos is another lovely place too.

Also been to Skala in Cephalonia and loved it.

merlot · 05/01/2006 09:18

OOh, off to investigate Skala then!

Am very now.

kefalonia great esp as there are not too many things to do so you don't feel you have to do them IYSWIM, you can just lie on the beach. end of may should be perfect time, we went first week in may which was a touch too early, too cool to swim (for me anyway).

are you going via a package? in which case i really really recommmend Sunvil, they eliminated all the things i hate about packages and we were just left with a great holiday. before kids though.

skala is fabulous AND has a nudist beach if you are into that sort of thing.

This was years ago though, not been since (sigh).

merlot · 05/01/2006 09:23

Nbg - can I pick your brains please??

What sort of stuff is there to do?
Does the beach have any shade?
Is there a good selection of tavernas?
Where did you stay?

Thanks!!

We did loads of trips out to different villages and towns as there were alot ofplaces that offered to do it on boats (which IMO is tons better than the bus)

Went to the Capital and some gorgeous little towns with cobbled back streets, stuffing our faces with Tziki

The beaches are lined with trees at the back so you could get some shade from there and there is lovely taverna actually on the beach which provides full shade and sells ice lollies

There are a good selection of Tavernas, mostly on the main street. You'd always see the fishermen going in on a lunchtime with their catches. Lot's of Swordfish as I remember.

Lefkas is lovely, very green and mountainous. Lots of little islands around to check out too. Not cutesy greece though, ie not the white tumbling villages.

Mousses at Lefkas is very nice (Simply Travel) and has childcare if you want it.

You are all painting such a wonderful picture in my mind - that I am there already eating the Meze! Thanks Nbg and everyone else!

We had such a wonderful holiday in Stoupa last year - at the recommendation of JaninLondon - I so keen to find something equally lovely somewhere else in Greece. Jan mentioned Mousses too, so will investigate that further too.

Dont like the idea of herd tourism. We went with Greek Options last year, but Sunvil looks good too - have requested their brochure now
Will also ring Simply Travel

Merlot I have been to both Lefkas and Cephalonia (are you surprised??) and loved both. South coast of Cephalonia has lovely beaches - Fiskardo has a more grown up cosmpolitan feel to it. You could also try Travelux for nice properties in Lefkas. www.traveluxgreece.co.uk/
We are looking at Sunvil's Residence Poseidon near Spartia in Cephalonia for our next break....but haven't decided yet!

janinlondon · 05/01/2006 11:18

Oh and the other place I am thinking of is Crete - this place - but I know that falls outside your current parameters!!!
