in new year we are going away for the night. dh wants to stay in london so we don't eat into our time travelling....i'm not so sure but willing to be persuaded....any fab suggestions for places to stay? any savvy mners know of good ways of getting a discount due to booking late (apart from obvious lastminute..., and does anyone have experience good or bad with that?)

any help gratefully received....needs to be quiet and v comfortable room (so we sleep) and feel like a treat.

Go to The Waterside Inn less than an hour's drive, the bedrooms are lovely and the food is fab of course.

More like a pub really but very nice rooms

You could stay at the Waterside as CD suggests but eat at The Fat Duck (Heston Blumenthal's restaurant) nearby.

waterside inn and fat duck both closed next week.

we want: quiet. massive bath. v comfy bed with fantastic linen. a bar. that's it. doesn't have to have a restaurant as we're not planning to leave the room!
