Menorca - shall we bother hiring a car?

villa operators said not to bother but quite liked the idea of a bit more independence. Is it worth it do you think? Going to cala en porter for 2 weeks.

Cheers!

It's worth hiring a car, at least for a couple of days, as there is so much see on the Island - the North coast beaches are totally different from the South and each beach/resort is different. Mahon and Ciutadella are also well worth a visit.

There should be several car hire desks in the resort.

Just back from Menorca. We were staying at Son Bou, but went to Cala En Porter a number of times, fabulous beach, down a very steep hill btw! We had a car for the entire two weeks and we really used it a lot. We went to lots of different beaches and resorts. The island isn't that big, but there are lots of things to see and do. Even a trip to the Marina in Mahon early evening is worth it just to people watch and have a nice meal. The beach at Son Bou is worth a visit and only about 25 mins from Cala En Porter. Also, I think you are staying in a villa? Well the resort supermarkets are expensive so it is worth a couple of trips to Lidl (in Polygon Industrial estate near airport) or the Dia supermarket which is next door and has a greater variety! So I would say get a car, it will be worth it! Smile. PS, diesel is quite a lot cheaper over there than here!
