Anyone been to Dubai? Going for 2 days - looking for good shopping.

Hi ALL,

Just found out I'm flying out to Dubai for a job on Monday. Can anyone recommend good places for shopping. I thought I could do some christmas shopping out there. Mainly would be after local intereting stuff, markets and souks...

Any help much appreciated the Dubai Tourism sites are a bit rubbish!

Erm...not sure if I'll be much help but I'll try.

There are loads of malls WAFI , Sun City etc that have all the western shops. There is of course the duty free when you leave for some last minute bits and bobs.

Local bits I'm not too sure of but all the hotel staff are sooo helpful that I am sure they'll help you find everything!

I was a bit disappointed by Dubai shopping but that was a few years ago. The gold souk was a bit overwhelming with shop windows stuffed with glitz. I did get some very nice black pearl earrings but from a jeweller in a mall. The fabric souk was much more fun in my opinion.

There's always Ikea......
