Orlando - nice restaurant for mum's birthday?

BigSooz · 30/04/2011 15:57

We'll be in Orlando this summer for my mum's 60th and would like to take her out somewhere nice for dinner.

We'll have two children under five in tow, so nowhere too swanky, but would like a break from Disney dining!

Any top tips?

We really love the Kobe Steak House (tapenyaki) on International Drive. Both my boys enjoy it every time. You get your own personal chef who does a show at the table which keeps the kids entertained. You may have to share your table with others but that is part of it and really is not intrusive whatsoever. It would make a fantastic birthday meal.

We also like Texas De Brazil which is at the very far end if Int Drive. Bit more pricier but fabulous food. You have a chef that comes to the table with different kinds of meat done different ways. You have a coaster on the table with a "go" on one side and a "stop" on the other so they no when to come to your table or not.

Both are googleable.

If you like seafood, then Fulton's Crab House at Downtown Disney is lovely. Whilst technically it has something to do with Disney, there's no Mickey Mouse in sight! The crab was lovely, brilliant service and lovely views. Would recommend booking in advance though as it's very popular!

What cuisine does yoru Mum particularly like?.
Would recommend any of those mentioned, Olive Garden is a nice italian restaurant (its part of a national chain) on I Drive.

BTW Bellavita - Hanamizuki is also a very nice Japanese restaurant to go visit on I Drive (its located not too far from the restaurant you've mentioned). I mention that as you seem to like Japanese food also.

You must consider The Cheesecake Factory - it's fab !

Great big portions, excellent food, service, good value, great cocktails & non alcoholic drinks, fantastic for kids too.

(don't go to Olive garden..! )

TrollyDolly1 · 30/04/2011 17:43

I second the cheesecake factory. It's in the mall at Mallenia. There are a few nice resturants there. PF changs is nice as is Bero. There are also some lovley restaurants in Pointe Orlando, catering for most tastes. The Capital Grill is gorgeous if slightly more expensive bu my all time favorite is Maggianos. Gorgeous! www.maggianos.com/en/Pages/home.aspx

I second Fultons Crab House at DTD- best fish I have ever eaten. Great service aswell.

BigSooz · 30/04/2011 18:14

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I'd also second the Kobe although I go to the one on the 192. Its lovely.
Fultons crabhouse also nice if you like that sort of thing.
Depending on where you are staying out there, there are a couple of very nice Restaurants in Celebration, just off the 192 near mile marker 6

bellavita · 01/05/2011 17:00

Thanks Attila, will keep that in mind for when we go back which will be 2012.

CybsFunkyCombinations · 01/05/2011 17:02

cheesecake not at all kid friendly imo.
id do the red lobster

bellavita · 01/05/2011 18:18

Cub the Cheesecake Factory were really welcoming to us and our boys.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 01/05/2011 19:25

Cyb, the Cheesecake Factory were also very welcoming to us and our son (who requested that his pizza have more cheese and less tomato on it, they happily complied) as well.

OP - if you go to this restaurant do go there on an empty stomach - ordering some of their main courses amounts to a v large portion of food on plate.

(P.S Bellavita - Hanamizuki has its own website).

bellavita · 01/05/2011 21:51

Attila, have you ever been to Hawaii (Maui)? If you have any recommendations for eating out could you please pm me? They would be gratefully received.

bellavita · 01/05/2011 21:53

I noticed I said cub instead of Cyb, stupid phone and auto correct..

kslatts · 03/05/2011 11:22

If your Mum likes Italian food then I would go for the Olive Garden, there are a couple in Orlando. The food is great and they really welcome children.

Halbanoo · 05/05/2011 12:52

I'd honestly steer away from a place like the Olive Garden. Even Americans make fun of it. It's like your Bella Italia with all-you-can-eat salad and bread.

Maggiano's would be a better Italian choice, imo.

electricslide · 05/05/2011 18:51

I know it's Disney but what about the California Grill at the Contenporary Resort? Amazing food and they have a viewing balcony for the evening fireworks. My DD was 6 and was fine there.

I'd second Texas de Brasil- pricier but you can register your mums birthday in their website and they'll email you a 50% off food voucher.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 07/05/2011 07:35

Olive garden is lovely! it cant be compared to Bellamy italia!

Outback steakhouse?

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 07/05/2011 07:35

Obviously that should be Bella Italia!
