I am taking my dp away for four days (without dd who is staying with grandma)for keeping me laughing thru sleepless "teething" nights. I know he likes Marrakech but I'm not sure. Any suggestions re M or elsewhere? Budget flexible.

2nd vote for Vienna. If you can get to Stansted checkout Ryanair new schedule to Bratislava (train or bus to Vienna, about 40 miles), some amazing intro prices.

soapbox · 02/11/2005 19:57

Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Monte Carlo, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Venice, Florence, Sienna, Milan, Paris, Istanbul, Marrakesh, Tunis, Athens, Rome, Copenhagan etc etc

mommie · 04/11/2005 16:53

hmmm - these places sound good. has anyone done marrakech in four days, and know where to stay?

Vienna has to be the most up-itself, uptight little britain place I've ever been personally, and I've probably been to a good 30 countries. Maybe it's less stressful without kids but I'm no wimp (did NY with 4 kids youngest 5 weeks and loved it for eg)
We went to Marrakech in November a couple of years ago (was 7 months pg) and had great fun, though we stayed at the pretty dull Sheraton as we had free points. Not too bad as a lot of people from Alexander were there at the same time. It wasn't too warm though. My personal favourite cities would be:
Rome, Venice, Prague(grows on you after a few visits), Brussels, Copenhagen, Paris, Stockholm, Barcelona(wonderful), Madrid, Palma(fantastic) - basically anywhere but Vienna if you want to meet fun people below the age of 96.

swedishmum · 06/11/2005 01:05

ps been to Vienna 3 times as dh working there so not just going on one weekend

mummytosteven · 08/11/2005 00:15

vienna could be great if you are into art galleries/history/opera.

i think Barcelona has it all - vibrant city, shopping, beach, harbour, fascinating modernist architecture, great food.....

lucycinco · 08/11/2005 07:55

Madrid is a great city, lots to do, lots to eat and small enough to get around easily.

Twiglett · 08/11/2005 08:08

Florence .. Florence .. Florence

pinotgrigio · 09/11/2005 00:34

What are you into?

Posh stuff - Milan
Christmas fairs & beer drinking - Munich
Art/Left Bank - Gay Pareeee
Ski-ing? - Switzerland/Germany/Austria/France
Shopping - New York
Wine Tasting Gourmet Weekend in Chateau - France
Golf - Portugal

Am quite jealous now. We're off for a long weekend to the Gold Coast, to take DD to see Wigglesworld. Not quite the same. Personally fancy a trip to Milan, with somebody elses Platinum Amex, followed by a gourmet Chateau wine tasting & over-eating trip and a couple of days recovering in a spa. Then crimbo shopping in Munich. Done! I present you with a fait accompli. Just take my itinerary to your nearest travel website and thank me with a box of choccies when you get back. In return you can have a dorothy the dinosaur hat, ok?

Anteater · 09/11/2005 00:36

We did Florence this year, perfect, Rome last year, great city, great sex!

CountessDracula · 09/11/2005 00:37

Istanbul - fab and romantic and so much to see/do

lapsedrunner · 09/11/2005 12:39

swedishmum lets not get too personal about Vienna......I live there with ds(3) and think it is fantastic (compared to UK) and I am under 96.

BudaBabe · 09/11/2005 13:01

Budapest!!! I have to say that!

I second Istanbul - it's fascinating.

I like Vienna too - beautiful city and it's a 2 hour drive for me for "proper" shopping! The Xmas markets are lovely - open from mid/end Nov I think.

Prague is lovely.

But if it was me I'd be off to NY - never been and am dying to go.

chipkid · 09/11/2005 13:13

I would pick Italy anytime-with Twiglett on this Florence is breathtaking-whatever the weather.-If you have lots of cash to blow stay at the Vila san Michaeli (excuse spelling!) in Fiesole just above Florence-it is magical

chipkid · 09/11/2005 13:14

NY is amazing too especially araound Christmas-feel sooooo jealous!
