Going on holiday for first time with dd in May and in a panic about everything really! What water to use for her bottles, boiled tap ok or do you have to boil bottle water or is that already sterile? What will she eat? EEEEP!!! Anyone have any help/advice to help calm me down!

Take it easy, it is still Europe! You can't drink tap water, but bottled water is fine and no need to boil it. Just read label, some waters have a high content of salt (like fuente alta).
Your DD will eat great fish (ask for sama, rape, ... and to have it without garlic: SIN AJO), poultry, melon and watermelon, fantastic bananas, yoghurt (the best are the Teisol ones), and the famous patatas arrugadas .
Supermarkets and pharmacies are full of babyfood, but if you go to local restaurants vs british cafés, you'll give your daughter and yourself a great opportunity to enjoy spanish food

Every summer and Christmas holidays, so I know the island pretty well. I just love Tenerife, and the kids too. So if you need any information, just ask.

We took ds to Tenerife just before his 1st birthday. Only problem we had was he was starting to "cruise" the furniture and we worried he would fall on tiled floor... He didn't. Grin

Off the top of my head
Bag of interesting things to keep lo occupied to plane/in restaurants. Go to £ shop ir similar. Buy lots of plastic tat (small bits like hairbrush squeeze balls toy cars) they will entertain for hours.

Shade a babe or similar to put over pushchair.

Enough nappies and spare clothes in hand luggage to handle the explosive poo lo will have 10 minutes into flight

Books. Lots of. You will end up back in your room at 9pm. You will be knackered.

Don't expect it to be anything like any other holiday you have ever had. It will be hard work. It will get easier.

Have fun!

Thanks geordieminx, think that im just expecting the worst and hopefully when its not that bad i'll relax and manage to enjoy it. Good idea re stocking up on bits from £ shop and will def take plenty of nappies for the plane!!

gordonpym - can you recommend any nice restaurants? We'll be wanting to eat some lovely local food!

We took DD to Tenerife at 9 months. She tried lots of new foods so it was great for her weaning. Was partial to a breakfast pancake is bizarrely chickpeas!

geordieminx · 05/04/2011 07:54

I remember ds chomping away on a spare rib when he wasn't even a year old in Tenerife Hmm

The majority of restaurants are child friendly, and the waiters usually love babies... We used to come away with bags of sweets and crisps and all sorts that they would give him

gordonpym · 06/04/2011 05:45

These are our favorite restaurants:
Bar del Cine - Los Cristianos, quite famous (try to google it), all plates are at 7 euros, and you will eat amazing fish for that prize. It is a little bit hidden in a narrow street.
Meson Castellano - Las americas (El Camison). This is the most expensive of the lot, but not an expensive restaurant. Great meat
El Gomero - Las Americas (near Police Station), very cheap and delicious.
Raymond for a real Paella - Los Cristianos
La Churrasqueria Rodeo - Fañabe. This is a buffet kind of restaurant, and the waiters pass through the tables serving one plate of meat after the other. Children under 5 don't pay.
Restaurante La caleta - la Caleta or Celso. La caleta is a small village very close to Las Americas, and that's were we go when we want to eat fish.

Thanks for all the help!! Ive managed to calm down and start looking forward to it!

Geordieminx what hotel do you usually stay in? Thats so funny that your ds was chomping away on ribs!! I'd be happy if dd ate anything at the moment...she is going through a fussy stage and wont open her mouth for anything except fruit and yoghurt!!

gordonpym, lots of lovely suggestions there! Thanks!

I have stayed in Los gigantes spa and suites, Mara Nostrum resort, and this year we are in Anthelia.

Oh he was a much better eater back then!!! He's a nightmare now!

Suzie1601 · 06/04/2011 21:51

I just dont know what to do when her anymore...even if i give up with the spoon and give her finger food she'll just have a couple of pieces and then thats it.

Really am looking forward to it now, hoping the weather will be nice, its late May we're going so hopefully not too warm.

I think the best thing is not to stress. They go through phases. Will she eat bread sticks or rice cakes?

I think up to a year old they get most of their nutrition from milk, anything else is a bonus

We went beginning of may last year and the weather was poor si we are going 28th may this year. Need sun on my bones!

Suzie1601 · 07/04/2011 21:43

we're going on the 22nd, hoping for some sun...all this rain is depressing! She has been eating rice cakes and managed to eat some fish fingers that i made today so its been a good day haha!
