Newquay, Devon: Need advice for getting there from outside Great Britain

Been invited to a wedding in Devon, the reception is on in Newquay.

I'd like to go, though if there are too many cons I mightn't be able too. Boo

I'm coming from Ireland, and would like some advice on which is the best airport for Newquay and how to get there and back from it

I can't drive (and don't think it'll change before the date either, mind you don't you have to have have been driving for x amount of time before hiring a car anyway)

Thanks

Newquay has its own (small) airport. I would be surprised if you could fly direct from Ireland there though (but have no idea). Taxi is the best way to/from the airport IMO although there might be a bus?

By the way, Newquay is in Cornwall, are you sure the wedding bit is in Devon?

Also an airport at Plymouth from where you could get the train to Newquay, then a taxi to the venue.

PureBloodMuggle · 21/03/2011 16:00

Yes the wedding is in Cornwall Blush it's about 30 odd mins drive eastish of Newquay apparently,

I have an odd habit of mixing them up (Devon and Cornwall that is) - probably because they are both such small counties Grin It's like my inability to get Tuesday and Thursday right, always mix them up. Confused.

If I were to arrange to meet someone in Devon on a Tuesday who knows what could happen!!!

Exeter also has an airport with flights to Dublin, and a station about 5 miles away - but I think the train would be about 3 hours with a change or two.

Flights from Dublin & Cork to Newquay airport.

PureBloodMuggle · 21/03/2011 16:25

Really cloudedyellow?!! which airline (only looked at airlingus and ryanair so far)

fly to newquay if poss, or exeter then train. Might be a station nearer the wedding than newquay...where is is? bodmin? Truro? Falmouth?

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/03/2011 16:29

lol at pureblood, I like the sound of you, getting Tuesdays and Thursdays mixed up Grin

and a tip for getting on with the 'natives' once in cornwal...don't accidentally refer to it as devon! Lots of cornish folk are very proud of Cornwall and many want independence from england.

exexpat · 21/03/2011 16:33

Newquay airport destinations summer 2011 include Cork and Dublin.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/03/2011 16:38

I am from Devon and I repeat the assertion that do not under any circumstance mix us Devonians up with the rabble from Cornwall

PureBloodMuggle · 21/03/2011 16:56

Wedding is in St Austell

I am very very sorry. Shall not even mention Devon whilst I'm there.

Well there we go flights into Newquay from Dublin!!! Shall have to see if the prices change as they are a little ching ching at the mo. Will check out Exeter now.

Hi! I flew Dublin to Newquay with Air South West last year. From memory the flight was quite expensive.

PureBloodMuggle · 22/03/2011 21:40

It is a tad - handy though - but with four of us flying plus hotel room it's not going to be cheap. Can't even make it into a holiday as it's school time.

Bother.

Still I've a while to make my mind up.
