Complaining/trying to get compensation from BA - anyone done it?

We flew with BA to Portugal last week and were delayed at the airport for over 3 hours and when we got to Lisbon our luggage was still in London - it arrived the next day but not very pleasant especially with 21 month DS - although he had a change of clothes and his bits in the hand luggage. It was the beginning of a not that great holiday unfortunately.

I will be claiming on our travel insurance but also want to try and get some compensation from BA - any tips from anyone? Will not be flying with BA again - the only person who apologised the whole time was the pilot on the outbound flight and it was nothing to do with him anyway.

Thanks a lot

Hi,

I spoke to millions (slight exaggeration maybe) of different people at BA with no results. Then I finally got baggage claims in Newcastle, spoke to the duty manager and reached a settlement on the phone. 2 weeks later I got a lovely letter where they apologised no fewer than 4 times and a cheque.

I had to provide receipts for my expenses though. As you made do with your hand luggage it may be harder to agree an amount. Don't think a 3 hour delay is claimable, but the bags being late should be.

Make sure you claim for all your phone calls!
