Car hire in the USA

Hi!
We have hired cars before, but my kids keep growing. So now we have 3 adult sized people, one coming up close (about 5 ft) and a child. And I am totally confused about which size car to rent. We do need luggage space to move our stuff from the airport to the Villa, but we won't be touring, so won't be transporting much most of the time.

When we were buying a car I noticed that at least in UK cars, there is often a lack of leg room in the middle of the back (so much so that there wasn't enough for our then 6 year old in some 5 seater cars).

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

DH is obsessed with cars as we need good boot space due to a large dog and P & T pushchair for DD.

It seems that you struggle to have both a big, big boot and great leg room on the back seats.

So I have 2 SUVs for you to consider (I'm thinking you're gonna have a lot of luggage etc so boot size is imperative) ...

  1. GMC Yukon, big beast of a car that IMO has best of both Worlds.
  2. Jeep Cherokee, slightly smaller boot but you could still easily get 3 large suitcases in boot plus a few other bits of hand luggage around them.

Neither of these cars will be cheap to hire as they're top end in terms of size.

Do any of the passengers need a car/booster seat? These can be quite pricey to hire from the same company as the car, i.e $15 a day. So if you can bring one over with you, or go to a Toys 'r' us when you get to the States and buy one for $20!

I have almost from the start always brought our own car seats, as they seem safer and are far cheaper. Now its down to one booster it shouldn't take much room (we used to have a huge bag just for Car seats, but then we used to fly Virgin who were generous with luggage).
