Lincoln...Staying this weekend, where should we go?

Dh the boys and I are off to Butlins Skeggy on Monday so I thought it'd be nice to stop somewhere for a couple of nights on the way. It was going to be York but when I looked on the map Lincoln jumped out at me

I quite fancy the cathedral but wondered if there's anywhere good to visit with 5 and 7 year olds. Also can anyone recommend places to eat?

Ginos is a lovely Italian!

Lincoln Castle is good to have a look around. Check the lincoln showground schedule for any events happening that weekend.

The castle is right next to the cathedral and is excellent, there's the old prison within the castle and an exhibition with the Magna Carta. There's the Museum of Lincolnshire Life which is quite good too (and cheap) - the kids will probably enjoy that. It's got reconstructed schoolrooms, shops, old industrial machinery and things like that. Close to the Museum is a windmill in the middle of a terrace of houses which they might like too.

There's a former asylum which has been converted into a craft centre with gardens, restaurants and play areas, called The Lawn. There's a tropical glass house and a sensory garden, and you can go inside the house and see a reconstruction of what the old asylum used to be like.

Everything is very compact, well signposted and within easy walking distance. There's an open topped bus tour as well which might give you some more ideas of places to visit.

There is a wonderful new museum (free with loads of hands on activities ideal for your age kids). It is next to the Usher Gallery. Lots of the stuff that used to be in the lawns is now there WWB.

Ginos is fun. but reasonably expensive. Zuchinnis on silver st is run by the same people but it is a bit easier on the wallet.

Thanks for the ideas, sounds like there's lots to do there

I'm really looking forward to visiting Lincoln as I love cities and it's always nice to visit a new one.

Just have the yucky packing and house tidy to do before we go
