Ideas wanted for a quick family break for half term

We have just decided that we fancy going away for a few days next week (totally unorganised as usual!) for the half term holidays. I have two children aged 1 and 7 and am looking for ideas on where to go. We cant get into centre parcs as it is fully booked, and dont want to go to Butlins as have been there loads of times before. We are off to Disneyland Paris in December, so that is out! Have considered a couple of nights at the Alton Towers themed hotel, but to be honest all the info says the park caters mainly for age 8 and over, so this may not be suitable. It does not have to be a theme park, but must be somewhere suitable where the children will be okay, would consider anything! Does anyone have any other ideas?

Just bumping this one, as we too have decided to go away for 2-3 nights. Have been to Bedruthan before and loved it, but can't face the drive for such a short hol. Would also go to Knoll House (family favourite over many years), but sister is going with her family and don't want to crowd them out. We are on Surrey / Hants border and would like something within about 1-2 hours drive max.

TIA

Have you checked short break stays on websites like this one

Don't know what part of the country you are in, but I've just booked a long weekend in Margate! Sand, amusements, pier, shell grotto, and near to Canterbury for the amazing cathedral. I've never been and am keeping fingers crossed. Hopefully the donkeys will also be on half-term duty.

What about staying in/near Windsor and going to Legoland?

Thanks for all your recommendations, we actually live on the coast in a seaside resort, so are quite spoiled when it comes to going away. As we have left it so late, we have decided to have a short break in disneyland paris in early December and to be more organised in the future!
