Has anyone been to see the Antony Gormley bronze statues at Crosby Beach?

I really fancy going in a couple of weeks as it's my birthday and I wondered if there's any nice pubs to get some lunch near there?

MissFit · 14/02/2011 21:08

No they're still there. No idea about pubs though sorry!

BonjourIvresse · 14/02/2011 21:09

It's amazing. Make sure you look up the tide times though.

You need Bitoffun - she lives near that beach I think.

Ok - a local / regular visitor to that area here so will try my best! There is nowhere to eat where you can see the statutes - unless you picnic! So it is a walk along the front and then go elsewhere for food. Not sure if you are bringing kiddies or not - so covering all angles!

The statues stretch from Hall Road to Waterloo. You can park at either end. I would recommend the Waterloo end - there are a few more options there. There is the Crosby Lakeside Adventure Place - lakeside - there is a lake here (obviously!) and a bistro which is lovely - you can sit outside overlooking the lake and have a fab meal - child friendly. There is parking there and an adventure playground overlooking the lake - all rocks and wooden play stuff for all ages.

An alternative would be the large hotel on the front at Marine Terrace, Waterloo royal - this has a good lounge bar (so my mother the resident eater outer of ladies that lunch!).

There are a wide variety of restaurants on South Road - tapas bar, italian, greek, etc - all reasonably priced. You would have to google them as there are too many to think of!

Another alternative is the Barbacoa which is a bit more of an evening venue, but lovely.barbacoa

My final one - about a five min drive from the front is in Crosby on the main A565 forad called The Pioneer - here. A bit more sophisticated but food is fabulous!

Any questions - just ask!

Oh what a great thing to do!

I watched a recent programme last night about AG that I'd recorded. He is so fantastic Smile

Hope you have a lovely birthday.

They are definately still there. I walk my dog on Crosby beach every day.
South Road has some nice resturants, at the end of the road is the marine gardens walk past the boating lake onto the beach and the statues lead towards Burbo Bank over a distance of about 2 miles.
I noticed today the beach was much busier than usual was a lovely evening.
Have a good birthday

The Pioneer is lovely. There are also some nice cafes on College Road which is very close, the best one imho being The Olive Tree.

I was there last weekend. I think best time of year to visit. The sun was low and it was a crisp autumn's day. What a beautiful legacy for Merseyside!
