Anyone been to Egypt in December/January? I know the weather is cooler then, but just wondered whether it is warm enough to be on beach/go in sea etc

I went in November 4 years ago and it's definately warm enough. My friend went the following January and had a ball. It was the start of they're winter when I went, I was sitting on a dive boat and checked my computer, the temp was over 30 degrees if I remember. I'm sure at 20 metres underwater it was about 22-24 degrees.

I went Dec 25 - 2nd Jan on a nile cruise and to Cairo. It was too cold to sit on the deck. I wore jeans and jacket.

Thanks guys...November sounds good from what you're saying, but if you had to wear jeans and jacket in December, then sounds too cold to go with kids as that's when we would want to go

Are you going to the red sea or the nile - I think the weather is different

We have been told 22-25 for late December

Red sea...I know Luxor is warmer, but we wanted beach. We were planning on going just after Xmas for a week. Guess we might be looking at further afield instead

We are going to Hurgurda (sp) and are hoping for beach weather...I hope we aren't disappointed

matilde · 11/10/2005 18:59

i think it's supposed to be 22 actually, so not too bad

Generally the Red Sea resorts will be warmer at that time of year. I went to Sharm el Sheikh at the end of December and the weather was very, very warm with just a chill in the evenings.
As for Cairo, I find it colder at that time of year, of course, not like winter here but cold enough that I wear a light jacket - nights in particular not so much the day.

If you're planning Red Sea at that time of year I'd say weather will be great. Which part of the red sea are you going to by the way?

Hi there, we have been looking at Taba at the moment, either the Hyatt Regency or Sofitel. Have had mixed reports, tour operator says will be warm during day, but cooler in evening which would be fine, but others have said it's too cool during day to be in water/on beach etc.....!
