Longleat safari park and Monkeyworld

We are thinking of staying near Longleat for a couple of nights and going to Longleat safari one day and Monkeyworld the next. My 2 ds are 10 and 11, so I think these places sound suitable for them.
It is quite a drive for us as we live in Norfolk, although that doesn't bother us as long as the places are worth visiting.
I just wondered if anyone could let me know if they think it would be worth going? Thanks.

I live in Dorset and have been to Monkey World a couple of times without any kids so I think its great place to go anyway. For 10 and 1 year old should be fine - Mostly outside though so waterproofs essential if it looks like it could rain.

Haven't been to Longleat since I was little so not sure about that

Have a great trip.

Longleat is fab imo, we went in the holidays. Just be aware that there is so much to see there that you might need more than one day. It depends though, you could easily do just the safari in one day but if you wanted to see other stuff there then you'd probably need longer. I have no idea about monkeyworld, sorry.

Thanks muppet73. I had never heard of Monkeyworld until yesterday but it does look good on the website. It looks like Longleat and Monkeyworld are not that far away from each other.

Thanks as well Wickedwaterwitch. I see what you mean about Longleat. It looks big. I just feel like doing something a bit different with the kids. I might combine it as a day out for ds1s 12th birthday.

Longleat to Monkeyworld would take about an hour an a half - although thats my driving!!

MONKEY WORLD is ACE!

I love it!!! I dont live down that way anymore, but it is a FANTASTIC day out!

Check out the little baby orangutang and let me know how she is getting on!

Goldfish · 26/09/2005 19:49

I will be sure to do that jessicaandbumps mummy.
We are not thinking of going until half term though. I am thinking of it now though as I need to look for a place to stay.

Saw the thread, and as usual when i see the word MONKEY WORLD! i have my usual reaction of feeling a little embarrssed and a giggling fit! I have only been once and on that occasion it was very very busy and i was enjoying the monkeys with a big crowd when this one male monkey singled me out and started really enjoying me!!! oh the shame! i could here people start to laugh and i didnt know what about i just thought oh he's being very energetic (like monkeys are!)when i realised what he was doing i tried to move along but as very crowded this wasnt easy and the naughty monkey followed me!!! every time i moved he followed!by now many people roaring with laughter, re directing childrens stares and avoding those "whats that monkey doing" questions.

...when you drive into the monkey enclosure at Longleat there is a sign to warn you that the monkeys will remove bit from your car.

...and trust me they will! I lost rubber from a windscreen wiper and they picked of the waterjet nozzle plus inner tube from the rear windsreen.

Car behind us lost the seal from aroud sunroof. The ground is littered with lost bits of rubber from cars.

Otherwise good day out.

monkey world is about 5 minutes from my MIL and on that alone I'd say stay away as a chill wind will be blowing

TinyGang · 26/09/2005 20:48

Just to back up Eve - those little b*s chewed lumps out of the rear trim on our car and it cost us a fortune to repair. It was funny though watching dh accelerating/reversing and slamming on the brakes to shake them off the car!

Longleat is a good day out though. Haven't been to Monkey World, but I've heard from others it's good but quite expensive.

Monkey World have a programme on Animal Planet - we've seen the whole lot now and can't wait to go there for real - let us know what it's like!!
