Planning on hiring a chalet by lake annecy in October. Anyone been? Got any tips/ideas. Family of five, our youngest child is 4months, eldest 4years. I love my food.

Still looking for somewhere nice to rent. So any suggestions gratefully received.

My sister lives fairly near.Don't know about chalets and so on but it is really lovely and sooooooooo clean!
Have a super time.

oh, don't go... moondog.. have you got any ideas for places we can visit/things we can do? I want to take it fairly easy and have a relaxing time so interested in pretty places/villages/sights we can potter around with the pushchair. D'you think the lake will be warm enough to swim in in October?

inglis,I'm really not much use to you as most of our holidys in France just involve catching up with my sister and her family and eating and drinking to excess.

I will be on the phone to my sister in the next few days,so will ask for you. Annecy is lovely to stroll in,mess about by the lake and in the parks and to stop for frequent cafe visits.

I'll be back to this thread when I've got some more info.

Inglis, general consensus is that Annecy not so much an all action place as quite simply a nice place to hang out with little children (and my sister should know with four of them!)

There are lots of the elegant parks that the French do well around the shore-lovely one right in the centre of town with an old fashioned children's fair, playground, rowing boats, boat trips and spoilt ducks paddling about.
We had some nice relaxing picnics there.

Loads of nice cafes and food shops (we like our food too!) especially posh chocolate places. Lots of places to sit out by the pristine canals that run through town.

There is a bird menagerie place on the shore as well as a bell foundry where they cast the bells of Notre Dame,I believe.

Sorry it's a bit vague, but hope it helps. I have a wacky picture of a 1930s skier on my kitchen wall that I bought in Annecy which always reminds me what a nice place it is. Better still, the hordes will have departed by the time you get there!

Thanks Moondog. I'll let you know how we got on.
