Amsterdam with a 6 yo? Would you?

We are toying with the idea of going for a long weekend. DH and I have been before but the activities that stand out in my memory were not so child-friendly Wink.

I would be grateful for any hints on accommodation and things to do.

Yes I absolutely would.

Apart from the zoo and the canal boats I would go to the fab science museum, www.e-nemo.nl/?id=5&s=85&d=551NEMO which is really hands on and looks like a boat jutting out into the sea.

If you are going soon you will have missed the best bit which is the beach on the roof (July-Sept only) but it still has fab views.

Ooh - that looks fab! I didn't even know there WAS a zoo in Amsterdam!

We took our kids there for a day trip in April. We walked around, they liked Chinatown, went on a canal cruise, ate pancakes.

I would have liked another day there with them. They would like the botanical gardens, flower market.

And deffo go here:

Fabulous views!

DS absolutely loved Nemo. He was not very interested in the canal boat ride but would have killed for a ride in a tram.

Amsterdam is so child friendly - google ton-fun (tunne-fun, tonne fun - variations upon that theme - can't remember proper name) - big soft play/climbing area in a tunnel that a six year old would love. Second the Zoo - it's very civilised, plus the science museum - fab. Also just wandering around - there's so many wee shops full of junk wonders that a 6yo will LOVE.

Also would stay self catering - on a canal boat if poss - try City Mundo but loads of others. :)

It's called TunFun, great for a rainy day!
(it's underground). And it's near Nemo and the Zoo, which also has a great aquarium and a planetarium, also near Waterlooplein, the flea market.

This site has lots of info, have a great time!
