Driving to Cote d'Azur with 19mth old

Hi there,
I'm planning a trip to the CdA soon driving all the way & wondered what the best options are re. taking our 19mth old. I've driven this route without kids & have done it easily in a day in daylight. I really want to arrive in Avignon the same night but the whole day in the car will send him over the edge & me! Will driving through the night be better & arrive early if somewhat knackered or breaking the journey during the day?
I just want to make it easy & as enjoyable as possible

We just did the drive down only to La Rochelle and back, and it was fairly bad with our DD who is 21mth. I too have done the journey without kids, and like yourself just kept going until we got there. This time we borrowed a DVD player for the car, and had non stop Tweenies and Wiggles for 7 hours! on the way south, traffic was heavy, and we didn't stop much for breaks. On the way back, we came off the motorway into a village for a meal break, but it was still fairly traumatic.
Splitting the journey just prolongs it, so i would probably just get it over with. Next time i think we'll fly.
