Arrived back in London today from LA and it was the first time I've ever been on a flight where people stayed seated when the aircraft came to a stop. But only because we were advised that officials would be entering the plane as a result of an incident at the rear of the plane and that it was v important to stay seated. Paramedics and police came on but these days I guess it could be anti-terorrist officers (as DH's boss recently experienced) and no-one wants to put their head above the parapet....

Love take-off; not so keen on landing.

Love them both, but i think taking off is my fave, the feeling when it kicks into gear on the runway it's like a roller coaster

DW (lockets) is petrified of the whole lot, take off, flight and landing

First plane I ever flew in (I was a teenager) made unexpected landing, during a violent electrical storm, in a "field" in the middle of West Africa, with local people running around with sticks on fire (to direct us).

Funnily enough, became a rather nervous passenger after that, with no desire whatsoever to ever fly again. I have done so, on very few occasions.

Last time was only few months ago (many years after I'd ever been before) and was for dh's business - I think I had what might be described at a Silent Panic Attack. My dh was brilliant and was going to take me off the plane before they'd even shut the door! I just knew I was going to die ...

It's Cornwall for holidays forever now ...

ThePrisoner, it's no surprise you're a nervous flyer. It's worth knowing, that Panic Attacks don't generally kill people, although they certainly feel like they will. And there are things you can do to stop them. And things you can do to make yourself a less nervous flyer, if it would help your life.

ThePrisoner · 06/09/2005 18:20

NotQuiteCockney - you are wrong about panic attacks not killing people!!! I know that my fear is the only thing that keeps the darned plane up in the air - the minute I become calm, we will all die!!!

Besides, I quite like Cornwall ...

I hate every part of flying and dh is a pilot! I know that the damn thing only takes off because I pull so hard on the arm rests

ThePrisoner · 06/09/2005 19:19

hmb - how about we go flying together to travel to all those exotic locations, but then we could take it in turns to keep the plane airborne?

happymerryberries · 06/09/2005 20:05

At least we could have a bit of a rest that way.

KathH · 06/09/2005 21:42

I dont' mind the actual take off - it's the bit just before when it starts moving down the runway that i hate. Love landing as I know the torture will be over in a few minutes!

ThePrisoner · 06/09/2005 21:52

Hmb - what would happen if both of us fell asleep at the same time? Eeek! (Do you watch those "plane crash" documentary programmes even though you know it's not a good idea?)
