Disney Florida: Husband not keen!

I have booked a trip to Orlando for the four of us next Easter, kids are 8 and 11. The problem is that my husband can't disguise his horror at the whole idea. How can I get him on board for this? Is there anything else in the area I could tempt him with?

What does your husband like? Why doesn't he want to go?

Disney is unlike other theme parks. But if he really won't get into the spirit of the place, you might want to leave him at the villa, play golf etc whilst you and the kids do Disney.

Do buy the Unofficial guide to Disney world.

Have you booked it without discussing it with him first?

Cape Canaveral is about an hour away I think.

Yes, I was going to suggest the Space Centre too.
It's actually a whole lot better going to Disney/Epcot etc than you imagine it's going to be - but he won't know that until he's there.
I wasn't relishing it myself, but loved it a lot.

There is tonnes to do in Orlando besides Disney! Some of it more grown up than others. I've been to California too, which is much smaller scale and more managable.

However if you let us know a bit more about your DH we can help you sell it to him, as Orlando really does have lots to do. My kids are quite keen on us going back, unfortunately it would have to be summer, and summer in Florida doesn't appeal as much.

Well it does have to be Orlando as we are making use of a friend's villa and yes we did discuss it first. He was ok with it but not mad keen but didn't have much choice as it is my year to pick!
I know we will all like the water parks but I think it is the all you can eat full on tourism tackfest that is putting him off.
I could do with some ideas of where to go to get away from that sort of thinhg when it is all getting too much or maybe just relaxing in the villa will be enough!

You're 1 hour away from Daytona beach. You can have days where you don't need to go near the parks and can go horse riding in the country, visit farms, go fishing....

There really is lots to do besides the parks.

My dh loves roller coasters so we went to Busch Gardens as well, which was more "adult friendly".

However, he got into the whole Disney thing more than I thought he would. He even lined up with us to meet the Princesses! And now is just as excited as I the dd's are about going back.

Take a day to go to Winter Park, lovely art galleries (including a Tiffany museum) and mansions around a couple of lakes, fine dining and cafes. Breaks up the Disney-fest nicely!

Winter Park and Daytona Beach both sound great, thanks for the suggestions.
