...can anyone recommend anywhere for me?

dp and ds/dn are driving to our hol in Duinrell next week; me and the girls are taking the overnight boat train. We are blessed with train tix to anywhere we want to go in the Netherlands. Our only restriction is that we have to get to den Haag at tea time to meet up with the others.

We did this last year and spent the day in Amsterdam but since that time we've visited the Netherlands twice more and done A'dam to death a bit. We've also done Delft a couple of times so that's out

...where would you go? What's den Haag like for a day trip (I've only ever used it as a transit hub and never had a look round Blush)- other thing I was thinking of is going a bit north- to Enkhuizen maybe?

any help gratefully rec'd!

Nemo is fantastic and six is a fantastic age to go there, more than a day's worth of fun to be had. 'tis in Amsterdam though, pretty close to the station.

ooh that looks good and we haven't been there yet. Might check it out- or go later in the week with the teenagers

My favourite place in the Netherlands is Apenheul, not sure how long it would take from Duinrell but it's under 2 hours from Rotterdam. Might be worth a look, I bet the 6 year olds would love it!

Rotterdam is very nice too, there's a lovely zoo there if Apenheul isn't doable. There's some sort of nautical museum as well that I have never been to despite having been to Rotterdam several times Blush

It's brilliant. Can't praise it enough Smile

Corpus is supposed to be really very good too, although I haven't been myself. It's in (well, next to) Leiden, which is next to Wassenaar. Maybe good for a rainy day.

Apenheul is lovely, but right on the east.

Vollendam is a touristy but pretty fishing village near Amsterdam. You could probably go sailing or have your photos taken in totally kitsch fancy dress.

The Flevohof is a big amusement park.

Have fun!

Oh, and there's always madurodam in den Haag it's self, if you want to make an easy day of it.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 22/08/2010 21:00

Yes, Apenheul would be quite a trek if you need to be 'back in time for tea'.

SpringHeeledJack · 22/08/2010 21:10

ooh thanks everyone- they all look great and we've not been to any of them

we're making the kids do one-day-Duinrell-one-day-out for the week (after two days running at the Tikibad me and dp are normally tearing our hair out) so what we don't do the first day we can always do later on

Smile

Sorry made a mistake - the park I was thinking of is called Linaueshof, and for the little one there is the Efteling.

SpringHeeledJack · 22/08/2010 21:37

oh I really want to go to the Efteling

our budget's a bit tight so I think we might do that one next time

Volendam looks daytriptastic Smile I'd never be able to get dp and the big boys to go somewhere like that- it's on the list!

One day isn't really enough for the Efteling, you need two.

SpringHeeledJack · 22/08/2010 22:00

thanks Femina- will remember that next time
