beaches Southend way for a day trip

The DCs and I have just come back from a week in Devon where they had the best fun in the rock pools, catching (or attempting to catch) fish and crabs.

We'd like to have a day out with DH to do the same but don't want to spend half of our day on the motorway etc so we thought Southend way (we live halfway between J25 and J24 of the M25).

Can anyone recommend a suitable beach please for us in that area?

TIA

Come a bit deeper into North Essex and visit Frinton. It's not rock pool territory but the sand is beautiful and the beach is divided into sections so it's easy to keep an eye on the children. When the tide is up there is no beach but there is a huge greensward to play on.

Parking is reasonably easy and free too.

thanks very much Alouiseg. I'd be very happy to come that far but DH probably wont be. I used to go to Frinton as a child and have fond memories. AA website is suggesting 1 hr 55 minutes though.
