Christmas break ideas with 8 month old please

I think the subject line says it all

I really don't want offend either my dh's family or mine by spending dd's first xmas with one or the other. Therefore am thinking of doing the cowardily thing and going off some where with just the three of us. Any suggestions please? Don't want to go too far. We are from East Midlands. Dd will be 8 months in dec.

Definitely, a friend of a friend wanted to get away last year and got and old cottage in clacton and it looked beautiful. Full oak beams etc.
