I have been left the task of finding a late deal (not going until August but researching so we can pick a good resort for last minute deals) for mid August...

DH ideally wants us to go to Menorca or Majorca (he hates idea of Ibiza as he thinks its only for clubbers...) but we have only ever experiences Maga Maga Maga! in our teens along with Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa so have no idea where to take 2YO.

Anyways, we are ideally looking for self catering somewhere quietish that isn't full of high rise hotels, nice and scenic with a choice of decent places to eat, a sandy beach and not too tacky...

Have heard that the above resorts might be good choices but it depends on who you ask. Have also heard that people think Palma Nova is still suitable for kids but dunno bout taking a 2YO there...

Any views on these resorts? We don't have a lot of cash to spare so keep ending up with travel searches recommending Magalluf/San Antonio/Alcudia/Calan Forcat at the cheaper end, all of which we have been told to avoid by relatives who have been there with little uns (excpet Maga... no one I know took toddlers there yet)

TIA

we went to palma nova in october and visited in april when we stayed at santa ponsa with ds who is 6 y/o. it's ideal if you have a small child as everything is within literally a couple of minutes walk to the beach which is really nice and you can walk into magaluf but dont have to stay for the nightlif. if its a lazy beach holiday that you want i would recommend it. but it will probably be busy in August (as will everywhere). there is a lot of nice cafes on the front and a large promenade. we much preferred palma nova to santa ponsa as it was flat, cleaner and much less aimed at getting money off you. we have decided that if we move abroad to retire we would move to palma nova.

Wow thanks for that!
Palma Nova was really nice when we went through for a break from Magalluf when we were there years ago but wasn't sure about it for toddlers. Sounds great though since it's flatter as you say. There are quite a few good late deals for Palma Nova too.

Thanks for that.

Hello

We were in Cala D'Or when our DS was 2 months old, it was quite buzzy, nice marina, restaurants and shops etc but in my opinion it isn't "quietish" or "scenic". It was rather built up with karaoke bars and pubs where we were staying. There was one beach there but we never went, as out DS was so small at the time.

We are going to Puerto Pollensa later this year (DS is now 2yrs) and my friend who has been a few times before has shown us some pictures, its very scenic, hilly with pine trees and nice beaches, again with a marina. I am really looking forward to it as it seems to be very calm, scenic and not too touristy compared to other places. To me it seems a better bet than Cala D'Or was for us, which we found was a bit tacky in the part of town that we were staying.

Also we were in Cala n'Bosch in Menorca last summer which was very nice too, the beaches there were expansive and clean, the Marina there was nice too with a good selection of restaurants, and Menorca seemed a lot more "green" and unspoilt than Majorca.

Good luck!

Puerto Pollensa is fab... scenic, lovely walks along Pine Walk, clean, lovely restaurants.

Not a bad word to say about it and cant wait to return.
