Detailed maps of France

We are planning to visit French niece's family in a hamlet of two houses. It does not appear on Mappy, Multimap or our new GPS - they just all show a blank area. We have tried Google maps and street finder, but she cannot recognise her house, or lane. The nearest small town is called Belleroche. Can anyone think of anywhere online where I could buy a detailed map and get it delivered to me in the UK quickly? Or something more detailed we could at least look at online? Something like an ordinance survey map?

via michelin is the site you need

Great site ... but have still ended up in a grey blank space. Will have to get the postcode from DN's parents and try again.

Where abouts is it? Is it slightly NW of Lyon? If so it is on page 212 of my Michelin atlas. Atlas Routier France 2009. Very very detailed, with good index, but no route planners! If this is the case, other smaller michelin maps will have it too, but no idea how to go about it.

Yes, that sounds like our Belleroche. That's the bit I often can find. Is there a village/hamlet nearby called Nolay or even Bas de Nolay?

try this

And if that fails, go to viamichelin.co.uk, put in destination (Belleroche) in France and 3 places come up. Check you have the right one, and you get a mini map.

fedupwithdeployment · 12/07/2010 22:24

No. There are 2 Nolays - just checking where!

fedupwithdeployment · 12/07/2010 22:28

One is just right of the Loire river - not near any place I have heard of. About 20 km from La charite sur Loire. Other is just about 10 km south west of Beaune.

RacingSnake · 12/07/2010 22:34

Close to the Loire sounds about right. Will have to quiz DN further when she is awake tomorrow. She is at present in bed exhausted by another day of English culture (and entertaining her 3-year old Franglaise cousin).

Thank you for your help!

Using your site, I can now see individual houses! If only DN could recognise hers. Will need to talk to her parents. Slightly daunted by language.

The post code will help (code postale) to check you are in right area. It wouldn't be much fun to arrive at the right named hamlet at the wrong side of the country

No problem. I am a bit of a map nerd as well as a francophile!

I hope the trip is worth it after all this!

RacingSnake · 13/07/2010 14:10

Particularly not since we plan to arrive in the middle of the night!

I know it will be too late, but look them up in the phone book www.pagesblanches and there is a choice of either arial view or plan view for a map. It uses other sw rather than mappy.

Hope this is of help to anyone else.
