...Elizabeth I had died before Mary Grey, would there have been any realistic chance of Mary becoming queen? At least the establishment was Protestant by then, so unlike her sister she wouldn't have been seen as a heretic.

This is an old thread but maybe can revive. I think if they were gonna go down the grey line they'd have more likely appointed Katherine's son King (whilst the eldest was deemed illigitimage that didn't stop Elizabeth and the youngest was deff legitimate) so I think they would have been chosen over Mary as a woman esp since she had no kids whereas Katherine's descendents are still around today

I've just gone down a massive Wikipedia hole of following the descendents lines. I always end up doing it when I'm looking at things like this.
I spend hours and end up with about 50 tabs open of all the children trying to follow the lines to present day.
