The Last Tommies

Is anyone else watching these programmes on BBC2? So desperately sad. People who fought in the First World War were filmed talking about their experiences - all dead now, but the project started some years ago. Some of the people filmed are (or were) well over 100.

How senseless the whole thing was. The slaughter was incredible. My grandfather enlisted right at the start of the war and I can't help feeling it's a sheer miracle he came back.

I bet nobody mentioned that the largest majority of the Tommies that fought and died or were left crippled for life in a country with scant safety net, that none of those men had the vote?
