Sorry, thought it would post the explanation too. That is the first black child to attend a white school in 1963. Loads of parents pulled their kids out rather than let her attend with them, and she had to have police protection.

The pictures of the Little Rock Nine in 1957 horrify me. Elizabeth Eckford is 76 now and has met the woman shouting abuse at her - think it was for an episode of Oprah.
