Childcare NVQ How long does it take.(and other questions)

I am currently on Mat leave (from my boring office job) and my local childrens centre is offering the childcare nvq level 1 and level 2 and i would love to enrole on this.

I understand i would need to be working in a childcare setting so i would need to check with my employer on the rules about working unpaid whilst on mat leave.

However if this is ok with them my plan is to register as a childminder and co-mind with a childminding friend i have. This would mean i could get the practical experience i need and also keep my baby with me.

Has anyone done this course and do they know how long it takes to complete. I understand a lot depends on how much you apply yourself and how much work you do but was wondering what the average completion time was and also the quickest time it could be completed in.

To work as a childminder you are recommended to have a level 3 Childcare qualification, either a NVQ or the Diploma in Homebased Childcare. But I would certainly start with the level 2 especially if it is being fully funded as funding for level 3 courses in our area has been drastiically cut & you would probably have to fund it yourself.
I you complete the level 2 & then register as a childminder you would have to do the first part of the Diploma (DHC) but you could then easily do the NVQ & having completed the level 2 quite a bit would be considered Previous Learning which could be marked off against the new course, therefore potentially shortening the course. BTW a full level 3 NVQ takes about a year to complete and the DHC 5 terms (1 unit per term).
