Hi

I have been reading all your fabulous thoughts on mumsnet since I had my son 3 years ago and just wanted to say thanks to all of you who wrote about doing distance learning - I have just started a course so I can try and go on to be a midwife and wouldn't have found it without mumsnet. I'm terrified having not studied for 20 years but am hoping once I get in the swing of juggling child/work/homework all will be fine.

Have also been a surrogate in the last year so any questions on that welcome too!

I don't know how much help I can be to anyone else but will do what I can as you've been great

Hi

Firstly WELL DONE!! and GOOD LUCK!!

I am really interested in becoming a midwife when my dc's are all in school.....could you let me know what long distance course you're on? I have done a couple but nothing that would be significant in helping to become a midwife! Thanks!

Hi and thank you very much.

The course is done by the Distance Learning Centre.com ( I think there is a .co.uk but I'm doing the .com one). They have one Access Course that you do with the basics because if any of your exams like O levels are over 5 years old they don't count and then you specialise in either midwifery or social work or whatever once you've completed the english and maths bits. Apparently it takes on average a year to complete but you can do it as fast or slow as you like and it's £40 a month.

Sorry, might be TMI but I'm emailing you instead of writing my essay as it's more fun!

Thanks! I will follow that up tonight when I have more than two mins spare! ....

No probs and do come back to me if I can answer anything else for you. Thinking of using my spare 2 minutes to try and get pregnant again so I can have an excuse to wimp out and eat cakes instead but am sure I'll get the hang of it soon.
